KaiFix Doors & Windows

Door and window repair in every town in Hawaii

Lanai doors that take two hands, jalousie cranks that spin, hardware seized by salt, glass fogged between the panes and screens the sun has turned brittle — repaired on site, usually in a single visit and almost always for a fraction of replacement.

The repair specialists Hawaii homeowners call first

KaiFix does one thing: repair the doors and windows in Hawaii homes. Not sell replacements, not fit new units, not quote you for a whole elevation when one component has failed. Repair.

That matters more in Hawaii than anywhere on the mainland, for one simple reason: everything has to come across an ocean. A replacement window or patio door arrives by sea freight, and the freight alone is a meaningful share of the price before anyone has touched the wall. A set of rollers, a crank operator or a box of louver clips arrives by parcel. The economics of repair are better here than in any other state, and they are not close.

The second reason is climate. Hardware here does not wear out so much as corrode — salt from the trade winds on every island, and acidic vog where the trades do not clear it. That calls for different parts and a different approach to the same repair. We stock the common components on-island, we fit corrosion-resistant hardware as standard, and we give you a firm price before we start.

Know the signs

Most of it has been getting worse for years

Doors and windows rarely fail gradually in Hawaii. Salt works into a roller bearing until it seizes, a louver clip corrodes until a blade drops out, UV turns a weatherstrip chalky, and then one day the lanai door needs both hands and a shoulder. It fails suddenly because corrosion is not the same as wear.

Then one day the patio door needs two hands, and the quote that arrives is for a new door. We would rather fix what actually failed and tell you honestly which situation you are in.

  • A patio door that drags, grinds or takes both hands
  • Screen mesh gone brittle enough to split at a touch
  • Haze or moisture trapped between two panes of glass
  • A sash that will not stay up when you let go
  • A jalousie crank that turns without moving the louvers
  • Water sitting in a lanai door track after heavy rain
  • A glass louver that has dropped out of its clip
  • Hardware that has corroded solid rather than worn out

What we repair

Doors and windows, start to finish

KaiFix Doors & Windows handles the whole opening — the panel or sash, the frame around it and the hardware that moves it.

Sliding glass door repair

Rollers, tracks, glass panels, locks and alignment on the door nearly every Hawaii home uses daily.

Track repair and capping

Corroded and gouged rails capped in stainless so new rollers run on a true surface.

Window repair

Operators, balances, rollers and locks, including hardware seized solid by salt.

Window glass repair

Cracked panes, fogged sealed units and failed putty, reglazed in the sash you already have.

Jalousie window repair

Operators, clips, cut-to-size glass louvers and the screens behind them.

Window glass repair

Cracked panes, fogged sealed units and louver blades, cut locally wherever we can.

Lanai and patio doors

Multi-panel, stacking and pocket systems realigned, resealed and re-rollered.

Weatherstripping and seals

Seals gone hard and chalky under tropical UV, renewed so a closed opening is actually closed.

Window screen repair

Rescreening, custom frames, jalousie screens, and fine, pet and solar mesh.

Our services

Every repair we offer, in one place

Doors and windows are the entire business. Nothing below is a sideline to something else.

Some of it is what people expect: a patio slider that will not move, a cracked pane, a window that will not stay open. The rest tends to surprise people — a sash lock painted solid decades ago, a parted cord on an original double-hung, a strike plate that has been out of line since the last humid summer.

Pick the service that matches your problem and you will find how we approach it. If you are not sure which one you need, call and describe what it is doing — working that out is part of the job.

Hawaii conditions

The hardest place in America to keep hardware alive

Salt, vog, ultraviolet and an ocean between you and every spare part.

Salt, carried inland by the trades

Nowhere in Hawaii is far from the ocean, and the north-east trade winds carry salt well beyond the shoreline. It gets into roller bearings, operator gears, louver clips, locks and every fastener holding them. Hardware here seizes rather than wearing gradually.

Vog where the trades do not reach

During Kona conditions, and on leeward Hawaiʻi Island much of the time, volcanic haze brings sulphur compounds that turn acidic in humid air. That is measurably harder on metal than salt alone, and it is why some leeward homes go through hardware at a rate that baffles their owners.

Ultraviolet, year-round

At this latitude the UV load never really drops. Weatherstrip, gaskets, glazing beads and screen mesh go chalky and brittle years before their rated life, then split rather than stretch.

Houses that are always open

Most homes here are ventilated by trade wind rather than air conditioning. Lanai doors, jalousies and screens are in service every day of the year, with no closed season in which anything gets a rest.

Everything arrives by sea

A replacement window or patio door comes by freight, and the freight is a real share of the cost. Hardware comes by parcel. That single fact makes repair a far better proposition here than anywhere on the mainland.

Housing built for this climate

Plantation-era single-wall homes, jalousie banks, deep lanais and louvered transoms were all designed around ventilation and rain rather than insulation. Repairing them well means understanding why they were built that way.

Around the state

Four counties, and no two islands the same

We work across the islands, and each one brings its own version of the same trade.

Oʻahu

The densest mix in the state: Honolulu condo towers with aluminium sliders and high-rise lanai doors, post-war tracts through ʻAiea, Pearl City and Waipahu full of jalousies, and windward Kailua and Kāneʻohe taking salt and rain straight off the trades. More of our work happens here than anywhere.

Hawaiʻi Island

Two climates on one island. Hilo and the windward side get some of the heaviest rainfall in the country, which punishes drainage and seals. Kona and Kaʻū get vog, which is harder on metal hardware than anything else in the state. The same repair needs different parts on opposite coasts.

Maui County

From Kahului and Wailuku through Kīhei and up into Makawao and Upcountry, plus Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi. A wide spread of plantation-era housing, condo stock and newer building, with the trades delivering salt well inland along the isthmus.

Kauaʻi

Līhuʻe, Kapaʻa, the north shore and the west side. Older housing, heavy rain on the windward half, and the most exposed oceanfront conditions in the state for anything made of metal.

Most companies here are built around replacement, which means freight, lead times and a large invoice for a problem that was often a twelve-dollar part. We built KaiFix the other way round: stock the components on-island, fit hardware that survives salt, and keep the window or door you already have.

How it works

Three steps, no runaround

1

Tell us what it is doing

Call or text. Photos help enormously, and you can send them straight over.

2

We diagnose on site

A technician checks the panel or sash, the frame and the hardware, then quotes a firm price before any work begins.

3

We repair it

Most repairs are finished the same visit. Glass is cut to size, so that follows on a short return trip.

Why us

Why we are the state's door and window specialists

We do not sell replacements

No replacement doors, no replacement windows. There is no commercial reason for us to recommend one when a repair will hold.

Doors and windows only

Not a general handyman service that occasionally touches them. It is a narrow trade and we work it every day.

Corrosion-resistant parts

Sealed stainless-bearing rollers and marine-grade fasteners, because ordinary hardware is a short-term fix in salt air.

Jalousies as a core service

Operators, clips and cut-to-size louvers. Almost nobody still services these properly, and most of Hawaii's housing has them.

Straight pricing

You get the number before we start. It does not move once we are working.

Parts on-island

Common components stocked here rather than ordered in, so a repair is not held up for weeks waiting on freight.

Service areas

Serving towns across the islands

We are a mobile service working across the islands. Wherever you are, we come to you.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

My sliding door is really hard to open. What is wrong?

Almost always the rollers underneath have seized or collapsed, so the panel drags instead of rolling. In Hawaii that is usually corrosion rather than wear — salt gets into the bearings and they stop turning altogether. Either way it is a repair, not a replacement.

My windows fogged up between the panes. Can that be fixed?

Yes. The sealed glass unit has failed and moisture has got in. We replace the unit inside your existing sash — the window itself stays exactly where it is.

I was told my jalousies cannot be repaired.

That is almost never true. Operators, clips and hardware are still manufactured, and glass louvers are cut to size routinely. It usually means the company would rather sell a replacement window than fit a crank and six clips.

Do you have to order everything from the mainland?

Not for the common systems. We stock rollers, operators, clips, balances and screen material on-island, which is why most of our jobs finish in one visit. Anything unusual we will quote with a realistic timeline up front.

Everything on my house corrodes. Is there better hardware?

Yes, and it makes a real difference here. Sealed stainless-bearing rollers, marine-grade fasteners and corrosion-resistant operators last dramatically longer than the standard components most doors and windows arrived with.

How much does a repair cost?

It depends on what failed. Rollers, hardware and rescreening sit at the low end; glass and track work cost more. You get a firm price on site before we start, and the estimate is free.

Do you work with landlords and rental properties?

Yes, including condo associations, vacation rentals and property managers. Doing several units in one visit is considerably cheaper than one at a time, and on an island it also saves a lot of scheduling.

Do you serve my town?

We work across all four counties — Oʻahu, Maui County including Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island and Kauaʻi. Call and we will confirm scheduling for your island.
